Parklakes 2 is a Master Planned community that is much loved by its residents. The Estate comprises 440 residential lots ranging from 350m2 to 2500m2, a school site for 1500 students, a retirement resort, a significant lake system, a District Park and popular cafe.

The estate is utilising an innovative Floating Wetland Treatment system (FWTS) for stormwater treatment. This technology is the first to be trialled in a residential estate in Australia and the world. The FWTS are located in the central part of the development and serve to treat stormwater on-site and to also provide a healthy lake system within the estate.

The floating wetlands design was a major “living lab” project that has set a new benchmark for wetlands management around the world and enables practical research projects with the region’s major university, University of the Sunshine Coast.

Significant external works upgrades were required as part of the approval process with Council including 2 major DTMR roundabout intersections and 1 DTRM signalised intersection. A site sewage pump station and rising main was also required to service the development.

The Community Park is centrally located within the Parklakes 2 Estate and delivers varying play spaces throughout its 1.4ha footprint. The park is supported by the inclusion of a local café which provides the local community with a meeting place to engage.

The play spaces are designed to cater for a wide range of uses, events and gatherings with the intention to provide local residence with an amazing facility within their neighbourhood. A place for everyone to connect, interact and exchange. The client had a vision to significantly enhance the opportunities for the local community to engage with one another and wished to establish a high quality interactive playground and surrounds.

Covey Associates has been instrumental in the project management, Master Plan development, civil design and documentation, supervision of construction and contract administration for delivering this iconic Sunshine Coast estate.
