As part of the final stages of Pelican Waters residential estate design and construction, Covey Associates was engaged to undertake a regional flood analysis and preliminary design of lock and weir infrastructure.

The aim was to ensure water levels within a new lake/canal system were controlled and that the proposed development met the standards of Sunshine Coast Council in regards to flood immunity.

The lake system and internal drainage networks were analysed with the hydrodynamic 1D/2D flood modelling software package, XP-SWMM. A lake turnover analysis was also conducted using the Delft3D FM Suite. This specialised software was used to calculate a pump rate to ensure the volume of the lake was replaced over a 22-day period. This will ensure the lake health is optimal and the waterbody will remain aesthetically pleasing to residents.
