Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer

📍 Sunshine Coast, QLD

Role Overview

Covey is seeking a Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer to join our Sunshine Coast team and contribute across two complementary streams of work:

  1. The ongoing delivery and evolution of our established Safechase racing lure product, and

  2. The growth of Covey’s mechanical design consultancy capability.

While Safechase will form the primary workload in the near term, this role is well suited to an engineer with mechanical design consultancy experience who is comfortable supporting day-to-day product activities while progressively taking on a broader range of consultancy-led mechanical projects. As Covey Mechanical continues to win and deliver new work, this position offers increasing exposure to concept development, design, analysis, and multi-discipline project delivery.

This is a practical, hands-on engineering role where technical decisions directly affect safety, reliability, and client outcomes across Australia and New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

Safechase Product Delivery & Support

  • Support the assembly, servicing, testing, inspection, and ongoing improvement of Covey’s Safechase system
  • Undertake root cause analysis of issues and contribute to continuous improvement of design, manufacturing processes, and quality
  • Maintain reference design, configuration control, and technical documentation
  • Manage product related administration including reports, change records, parts order, supply chain management and client requests
  • Support design validation, testing, and safe re-introduction of repaired / modified systems into the field

Consultancy & Project Work

  • Contribute mechanical design and engineering support to consultancy projects as workflow grows
  • Support concept development, detailed design, analysis, and documentation for novel mechanical systems
  • Work collaboratively with the broad range of discipline offerings Covey has on integrated projects
  • Manage mechanical work packages, with exposure to larger multi-discipline scopes over time

Client Engagement

  • Act as a regular technical liaison with clients across Australia and New Zealand
  • Build trusted working relationships through clear communication and practical problem-solving
  • Undertake occasional nationwide site visits for inspections, servicing, troubleshooting, or project delivery

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering
  • 3-5 years’ postgraduate experience in mechanical / mechatronics engineering roles within a design consultancy, product development, or project-based environment
  • Strong grounding in:
    • Mechanical design processes
    • Design-for-manufacture and buildability
    • Testing, inspection, and validation
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capability, with the ability to interpret engineering briefs and develop clear, structured plans that define scope, methodology, and progression to delivery.
  • Experience with fault investigation, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to manage technical documentation, reports, and structured administrative tasks
  • Experience with CAD and analysis software
  • Comfortable engaging with clients in a technical liaison role
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for site-based work

Desirable Attributes

  • Design consultancy experience through concept to delivery project phases
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments or operational assets
  • Experience or working understanding of electrical systems, electronics, or mechatronic systems (Safechase)
  • Familiarity with integrated mechanical–electrical systems and cross-discipline coordination
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys mentoring and knowledge sharing
  • Interest in growing into increased technical leadership and client facing responsibility

What Covey Offers

  • A hands on Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer role with real-world impact
  • Ownership and involvement in a proven, safety-critical product deployed across Australia and New Zealand
  • Clear exposure to future work in innovative and technically challenging projects
  • Collaboration within a multi-disciplinary consultancy team
  • Opportunity to see work through from concept to implementation
  • Sunshine Coast lifestyle paired with meaningful, technically credible engineering work
